An Opinion Piece by Kate Robbins, Posture and Poise Academy Business Training Lead
Everywhere I look now, I see companies boldly stating that they don’t use AI—“No AI content here!”—as if this is a badge of honor. But history has often shown that those who ignore trends risk getting left behind.
It’s now obvious that the integration of AI into our lives is inevitable. If you look back on the last 24 hours, I have little doubt that you’ve engaged with at least one AI-powered tool—potentially without even realizing it. “Alexa, volume down.”
So rather than resisting the inevitable, surely the sensible course of action is to figure out how best to use AI within your own moral and ethical framework.
Some Words of Caution:
Of course, AI isn’t without its risks. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Inaccuracy: AI-generated content isn’t always correct. It pulls from a huge pool of online information, but that doesn’t mean it’s fact-checked or up to date. Always double-check the information before relying on it.
Loss of Authenticity: AI can generate content, but it doesn’t have your voice, your experiences, or your unique perspective. If used carelessly, AI-generated content can feel generic and soulless.
Over-Reliance & Ethical Concerns: If businesses rely too heavily on AI, they risk losing personal connection with their audience. Customers value authenticity, and people buy from people, not just faceless brands.
Cheating vs. Assistance: AI can help with everything from content creation to problem-solving, but using it in a way that misrepresents your own skills or effort—such as submitting AI-written work as entirely your own—raises ethical concerns.
So, How Can AI Help Your Business?
For me, the most obvious answer is marketing.
I meet hundreds of therapists every year, and they all say the same thing: “My treatments are great, my clients love me, but I’m terrible at social media.” And in today’s world, the reality is that if you're not on social media, you basically don’t exist.
Do you know who isn’t terrible at social media though? ChatGPT.
• Need inspiration for some posts? Just ask.
• Not sure which hashtags to use? Ask.
• Want to check if your post is grammatically correct? ChatGPT will do that for you!
And it’s not cheating. All that information is already out there on the internet, but whereas it might take you hours to research and write a post, ChatGPT can return the same information in seconds.
How far you take this is up to you. ChatGPT can even write your posts for you, allowing you to simply copy and paste them into Instagram. But remember—AI can’t speak in your voice. You are your brand, so it’s important that your content reflects you and doesn’t come across as generic sales speak.
Saving Time = Saving Money
The next major benefit of AI? Time-saving.
Every second a therapist spends away from their clients is either money lost or personal life sacrificed. So why spend two hours writing an introduction for your website when, with just a few short sentences, AI can draft one for you? The same rules around authenticity apply, but half an hour spent editing pre-written text is surely better than hours staring at a blank screen.
More Than Just Words
The benefits of AI don’t stop at content writing. AI tools can:
• Create custom images (though always count the fingers before posting!)
• Analyze customer trends to help you understand what’s working
• Generate ideas for services, blog posts, or events
• Automate repetitive tasks so you can focus on what truly matters
And perhaps most exciting of all? AI learns. The more you use it, the better it gets at understanding your business, meaning your content will become more specific, personalized, and valuable over time.
Final Thoughts
So my advice? Don’t go down the “No AI here” route. It doesn’t serve you, and it doesn’t serve your business.
Instead, learn about AI, decide on your own moral code around using it, and take advantage of the opportunities it presents. Running a business is hard enough—why not use every tool at your disposal?
